Cobblers fans were over the moon this week following their 4-0 Nene derby drubbing of arch rivals Peterborough United, victory felt all the more sweeter coming at Posh's own London Road stadium.
However, in a completely coincidental, non related occurrence, it has emerged Posh fans do not consider NTFC rivals at all! In a series of comments on social media, message boards and YouTube interviews, Peterborough fans have declared a number of clubs higher up the pecking order of Posh hatred!
In a livestreamed announcement yesterday, Martin Nelson, spokesperson of the independent Peterborough United supporters club, announced the league table of official rivals for the Posh, with Northampton Town FC nowhere to be seen:
That Posh List Of Rivals In Full:
1) Cambridge United
Our local Country rivals, unlike the Cobblers who we don't care about at all! Only 42 miles down the road and we always came out on top! Hate em!
2) Milton Keynes Dons
Newish in the grand scheme of things, but we've had some memorable battles with them in the last few years in league one and league two. Always very satisfying when we get one over that lot. We don't really care either way however when we play Northampton, it's like a meaningless preseason friendly when we come up against whoever they are.
3) Lincoln city
Bloody Imps we hate them! A right grudge match for us. Just 40 miles up the road, horrible inbred lot!
4) Harchester United FC
Even though they don't actually exist and are a fictional team, we hate these more than the Cobblers who we just aren't bothered about. They knocked us out of the league cup in an episode of Dream Team and there's also another scene where Fletch laughed at a team mate for being sent on loan to the Posh. I'd love it if Dream Team was rebooted and we beat them.
5) Heard and McDonald Islands
We've never beat this lot, because no one lives there but I reckon those penguins lord it over us. Well win the next Atlantic/Indian Ocean derby, fingers crossed!
